Perfect Family Getaway on Lake Michigan
Find out the best place to visit Lake Michigan on the Wisconsin side!
It's vacation planning season! This time each year I see numerous posts popping up on social media asking for vacation getaway recommendations for families. I think this is the perfect time to share the hidden gem we found last year in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. In July 2022, we traveled with some of our best friends to Blue Harbor Resort on Lake Michigan. The set up is perfect for families with young children!
Below are the top reasons why this destination should be your next family vacation. Find out why it is a one stop destination equipped with all the best amenities!
Easy Drive from South Central Indiana or most of the Midwest.
We found out driving for about 5-6 hours in one day with our littles was about our max. That requirement helped make this destination a winner, because it fell right in that range from our home.
Waterfront on Lake Michigan
This resort is located directly on Lake Michigan. It gave the beach feel we wanted with absolutely beautiful views. We stayed in the villa room option which made us a short few steps away from the sandy beaches right out our front porch. The room offerings include a hotel style attached to the main building of the resort and the villa option that is more of a townhouse complete with a functional kitchen and living room.
Indoor Water Park and Outdoor Pool
A top priority for us is fun water play while on family vacation, and this place takes the prize in this category for sure! They boast a 54,000 sq feet indoor water park kept at a balmy 84 degrees inside. This space appeals to a range of ages with features including toddler tides, water and tube slides, lazy river, water basketball, surf simulator, lily hopper, hot tub, and more! On top of those indoor park features there is a traditional outdoor pool for sunbathing as well.
Arcade and Indoor Glow Mini-Golf:
As if the water play options were not enough, this resort has other activities on site. Sometimes loading up to go off resort for other things during vacation can be a lot for families and kiddos. A great feature of Blue Harbor are their on site options of an arcade. Additionally, you will want to check out the large glow in the dark mini-golf located above the arcade one night of your stay.
On-Site Restaurants
There are four restaurants to choose from on site if you are looking to stay on resort as much as possible. Again, the convenience of this is everything with young kids! When we visited we stayed in the villa option so that we could also grab a few groceries to be able to whip up some easy meals for the family like chicken nuggets, frozen pizza, deli sandwiches, etc.
Bonus Tips:
Check out their package deal that includes a handful of extras for the kids at a discounted rate. Some of the fun includes a scoop of ice cream, dinner voucher, build your own animal voucher, a round of mini-golf, and more!
Family Focused Special Activities
Check your TV at the resort for a list of that week’s free special activities for families. A few things they had going on the week we visited were sand castle building, smores on the beach, yard games, and movie nights!
This destination was such a perfect fit for our family, and we hope to visit again in the years to come!!
May your next family adventure create joy and memories whether it is in the backyard or along the lakeside beaches of Wisconsin!
